Hola!

Hola! Ok, I'll write this in English...

I've been doing family history research for about 30 years. And there are stories to tell, pictures to look at, things to share...both from our family before us and even our family now.

So if you have something to add...old or new...please do!

Hola Emilio! I think some of the family has lived in the Bronx, in times past. Most of us who are from Eduvigis and Margarita Caban are spread all over the world now, though we were all in the NY-NJ area for many years. Some of us are in California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Canada, England and even back in PR! So I don't know if anyone is still in the Bronx, but I know that some of the family was definitely there in the 1960s-1980s.

This is a picture of my grandparents - Edwin Caban and Margarita Rodriguez de Caban - and their children. The children are - Left to right - Germen de Luz (Jaime), Edwin Jr. (seated on my grandfather's lap), Daisy Ann (seated on my grandmother's lap, and Luis Caban. So who looks like your father?

Actually, your grandfather does; however, my father was born in 1945 in Anasco, Puerto Rico.

I am a Caban in the Bronx and I know nothing about my father's side of the family. Am I related to any of you? Have any of you considered taking a genetic test to determine your ancestry? Caban34@aol.com. Contact me.

Hi Ramon,

This is Sharone here. My immediate grandparents came from PR to Manhatten in about 1920 and I've found their records on the Ellis Island website. But they ween't the only ones in the family to come over. It was a very big family and my grandfather was the youngest of 13 children! I think i might update the blog to include a more comprehensive family tree, which might be helpful.

I know that all Puerto Rican Cabans are related. The question is where our lines cross! Anyway, what do you know of your family tree?

Hi Caban34 -

The DNA test on women only determines very ancient genes and a general location from thousands of years ago.

The test on men, however, is extremely useful and can determine much more recent bloodlines! If you - or any other Caban male reading this - would ever like to take the male DNA test I would happily publish the results here and maybe we could get some comparisons going!

I'm so excited I stumbled onto this website. My name is Marisa Caban and I was born in NYC. My paternal grandfather died when my father was only a child, but I do know he was from Lares. I'll ask my father for more info.

Hi Marisa! If you want me to post any info your father tells you I will be happy to.

Bienvenido prima!

Hi Rlperez (What's your name?? You've posted comments before and I would rather call you by your name than your Blogger designation, if that's ok)

I've done a new entry to hopefully help start the DNA process a little. Though I grew up in New Jersey I now live in England, so I don't totally know what's available, but it might get the ball rolling.

Sorry about that, my name is Rudy Perez and I currently live in Chicago. I recently found that my grandfather (fathers real father) last name was Caban. I was visiting my ailing abuela in PR and she told me his name. My father never spoke of it purposely and is now passed away. I have no other answers or leads except your blog. However, the peopel in the picture show strong resemblence of my father and myself. Thats my story.

Hey Rudy! Have you checked out what Lucita has done (comment on DNA front) It's all numbers but I'm going to try to find out what they mean. It's a start!
